Drupal Video Tutorials

This page provides beginning users of the Duffminster Times some tutorials to become familiar with how to navigate the site. Duffminster is based on the very broadly based open source WEB 2.0 database collaboration system called Drupal. It has both strengths and weaknesses but it has lots to offer and is open source and hence can be modified without limits. I'm working on that now. In the meantime, here are some good tutorials. I will be adding more advanced tutorials and I invite all members to comment and add suggestions and to start communicating.

Drupal Content Creation - First Content Lesson

On Cutting and Pasting

I highly recommend that users who want to post excerpts use Firefox as opposed to Internet Explorer. Drupal will handle most generic html including older style video embedding, which you will find as an option under most video systems such as Youtube. You will need to Google Firebug, and install that free plugin. Then when you highlight the text and images you want to copy, you right click and then click on "View Selection Source" and then when the DOM window comes up you can copy and paste the html code into your post. Make sure to select "full html" under the "Input format" section under you post.

If you have questions you can submit a comment to this post.

Embedding youtube videos in blogs

Duff, is there a way to have access to full HTML or a way to import youtube videos without causing security problems. I think if we could embed youtube videos to add to posts and articles it would be a great added feature.

I don't know the ins and outs of handing out the Full HTML or if their is a feature to easily import youtube videos? I've tried looking up online how to do so, but from what I've discovered so far you would need the full html button.

Embed code within nodes. By far the easiest and most flexible way to integrate YouTube videos on your site. Just copy and paste the embed codes provided for each video player into the node body. Make sure that your input format is set to 'Full HTML' or the player will not appear when the post is saved.
The asset module. The asset module can connect to your YouTube account via the YouTube API. This allows you to access lists of uploaded videos and favorites which you can then insert into posts directly from the Drupal adminstration interface.
The embedded media field module. Embedded media field is a multi-purpose embedding module that supports images, video and audio. The video part supports YouTube and a wide variety of other video sites. This module allows you to create a field using CCK that will accept the link to a YouTube video and automatically convert that link to an embedded video player in the node.

I'm not seeing the option

Duff,
I don't see any option for "input format" when posting; where is the option located?
thanks,
Kate

Question Duff?

Do we not have ablitity to input full HTML for youtube? I've been trying and I see no option for this. The firebug download works, but I think other than you nobody has ablity to add youtube videos to the blogs or news.
